Importing customers from a file

If your customers are already in a spreadsheet, bring them in as a file. One row becomes a customer, a site and a pool in one go.

Step by step

1. Open Customers and press Import.
2. Drop in a .csv, .tsv, .txt, .xlsx or .xls file, or pick it from disk.
3. Map columns. GardyProp guesses from the header row and recognises both English and German headings — Name, Kunde, Telefon, Adresse, Länge, Tiefe and so on. Correct anything it got wrong.
4. Check the preview.
5. Press Import.

Only Customer Name must be mapped. Rows without a name are skipped and counted.

Good to know

What one row can carry: customer name, email, phone, address, notes; site name, site address, latitude, longitude, gate code; pool name, length, width, depth, volume and type.

Missing pieces are filled in sensibly. No site name takes the customer's name. No site address takes the customer's address. No pool name becomes Main Pool. No pool type becomes chlorine.

Volume is calculated if you did not supply it — length × width × depth × 1000, the rectangular approximation. Check it afterwards on a freeform pool; it will be too high.

Your plan's pool limit applies. The import stops adding pools when the quota is used up and tells you at which row — see why you cannot add another pool.

What it does not do

There is no duplicate check. Importing the same file twice creates every customer, every site and every pool a second time. GardyProp does not compare against what is already there, not by name and not by email. Check the imported count against what you expected before you import again.

Imported pools have no dimensions you can trust unless your file carried them. The proper values come from the survey.

Only the first 10 errors are reported back. If a file goes badly wrong, the count of skipped rows is the number that matters.
