Dimensions and volume

Type length, width and depth — the volume appears, and you can correct it.

Before you start

The volume is the single most important number about a pool. Every chemical dose is calculated from it, so a rounded guess here is a wrong dose at every visit from then on.

Step by step

  1. In the survey, enter length, width and average depth in metres.
  2. The volume in litres appears by itself.
  3. Correct it if you know better. The field is yours.
  4. Choose type — chlorine, salt or other.
  5. Choose construction — overflow, skimmer, infinity, whirlpool or other.
  6. Choose surface — tiles, liner, fibreglass, concrete or other.

Good to know

The suggested volume is a rectangle. Length × width × depth × 1000. It is a starting value and nothing more.

A freeform or kidney-shaped pool holds noticeably less than its bounding rectangle — often 15 to 25 % less. A Roman end, a beach entry or a sloping floor all pull it down as well. If the pool is anything other than a box, overwrite the number.

Average depth, not maximum depth. A pool that runs from 1.2 m to 2.0 m has an average of about 1.6 m. Typing 2.0 overstates the volume by a quarter, and every dose with it.

Why construction and surface are asked: an overflow pool has a balance tank that a skimmer pool does not, and a liner reacts to chemicals differently from tiles. They also tell the next technician what they are walking up to.

What it does not do

GardyProp does not measure anything for you and cannot tell a rectangle from a kidney. The suggestion is arithmetic, not a judgement.

Changing the volume later does not recalculate past visits. The doses that were recommended then stay as they were recorded.
