The customer's report link
No login, no password — the link itself is the pass.
Before you start
The customer gets a link. They open it and see their report. There is no account to create and no password to forget.
Good to know
The token in the address is the credential. That is a deliberate trade: a password would mean a customer who never opens their report because they cannot find the login.
The page is never indexed by search engines. This matters more than it sounds. A token protects a page only while it is secret — but a page that once entered a search index stays findable long after the token stops meaning anything. A forwarded link, a bookmark in a browser that syncs, and the page has been discovered without anyone linking to it.
The same approach is used for quotes — see quotes.
What it does not do
The link does not expire on a timer. Treat it as something the customer may keep.
Anyone with the link can open the report. Do not put anything in a technician's note that you would not want forwarded.
For a customer who wants everything in one place rather than one link per visit, there is the customer portal.
