Warehouses and vehicles as stock locations

Material does not just exist — it lies somewhere. In GardyProp a location is either a warehouse or a vehicle, and both work identically.

Step by step

1. Warehouses are set up under your company locations. Tick the one that is your default warehouse.
2. Every vehicle is automatically a stock location — see adding a vehicle.
3. Wherever material is chosen, warehouses come first with the default at the top, and vehicles after.

Good to know

Why a van is a location and not a note: at seven in the morning, half your chlorine is on wheels. If the book only knew the warehouse, it would claim stock that is thirty kilometres away, and the shortfall would surface as a mystery in the yard.

Warehouses come first in every list, with the default on top. Vehicles come after, because their contents change daily and the first place you look is the warehouse.

A location with no movement has no row at all — not "zero". An item that was never booked at a place does not have zero there, it has nothing. Inventing a zero would be inventing a fact.

There is no fallback if no default warehouse is set. Booking without a location would otherwise quietly deduct from the wrong place, and that only shows up at the next count.

What it does not do

There are no shelves, bays or bin locations inside a warehouse. A warehouse is one place.

A location cannot be deleted while movements point at it. The book has to stay readable.
