Adding a vehicle

A name is enough. The vehicle is a stock location from the first minute.

Before you start

A vehicle in GardyProp is three fields, two of them optional. That is deliberate: somebody who wants to load a van now should not have to go looking for a registration number first.

Step by step

  1. Open Vehicles and press New vehicle.
  2. Give it a nameTransit white, Van 2. That is the only requirement.
  3. Optionally add the registration and a home warehouse.
  4. Save.

To give an employee a default vehicle, set it on the person under Personnel.

Good to know

Every vehicle is a stock location from the moment it exists. You do not switch that on. At seven in the morning half your chemicals are on wheels, and a book that only knew the warehouse would claim stock thirty kilometres away.

The default vehicle decides where material comes off when a route has no vehicle of its own — see material used at the pool.

The home warehouse is where loading defaults to. It saves a choice on the screen you use most.

A vehicle can be decommissioned rather than deleted. Its fuel log, its kilometres and its movements stay readable. Deleting would tear a hole in last year's cost per kilometre.

What it does not do

There is no service schedule, no MOT date and no insurance record.

Decommissioning does not empty the vehicle. What is on it stays booked there until it is handed back — see counting and handing back.
